Exploring the Fashion District & a Serendipitous Encounter
Post-brunch, we wandered through Budapest’s bustling fashion district, admiring local boutiques and stylish windows. Later, we joined a free walking tour with Budapest Historical Sightseeing Tours. Interestingly, we ran into our tour guide at a coffee shop before the tour even started!
We highly recommend this tour—learned so much about Budapest’s rich history, especially its role during WWII, the Jewish ghettos, and the poignant Jewish Shoe Memorial.

The Jewish Shoe Memorial
Next, we visited the Jewish Shoe Memorial, a poignant tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. The memorial features iron shoes left on the bank of the Danube, symbolizing the Jewish men, women, and children who were executed by fascist Arrow Cross militiamen during WWII, their shoes discarded along the riverbank as a haunting reminder of tragedy.

We strolled through the beautiful rose garden, fragrant and colorful, then headed to the Szent Gellért Monument.
Gellért was a bishop and saint, credited with bringing Christianity to Hungary. The monument commemorates his martyrdom and his role as a protector of the Hungarian people.

Nighttime Cruise with Silver Line Cruises
Our evening was topped off with a nighttime Prosecco cruise on the Danube, courtesy of Silver Line Cruises. The crew was energetic and friendly from start to finish, making the experience even more memorable.
While we were waiting to sail, there was a fireworks display. Imagine telling your younger self that you would be floating in the Danube enjoying Prosecco and a fireworks show. Would you believe it??
This cruise gave me the chance to capture that elusive shot—the Parliament illuminated at night, a photo I’ve always dreamed of.
